Are You Wearing the Correct Sized Bra?

Introducing Bras for Teens and Tweens

Are You Wearing the Correct Sized Bra?

Sometimes we wonder why, when we've bought a bra that is our size, the bra is not very comfortable and doesn't seem to fit right. Our first thought is that the bra is probably not sized correctly or is not of good quality but what we don't know is that almost 70% of women are not aware of their correct bra size. Many women also assume that bra size is static. If you are a 34A when you were 21 years old, you may assume that you will be 34A forever. Not true! Your bra size changes after significant milestones in your life such as childbirth, weight change and the like. Experts advise that you check your bra size at least twice a year to make sure you are getting the most comfort and fit out of your bra.

How to measure for the correct bra size is fairly simple. A few reminders before you begin. First, its best to have someone else do the measuring for you. This will ensure you will have the best posture for accurate measurement. Remember to stand up straight and to breathe normally. It will also be a good idea not to measure on top of clothing. The best thing to wear when measuring for bra size is a bra you feel most comfortable wearing. Just make sure you're not wearing a heavily padded bra or one that gives your bust added “volume” so you get a correct measurement.

The first step is to take your rib cage measurement (32, 34, 36, 38 etc.). Place the tape measure around your rib cage just below the bottom bra edge. The tape should be comfortably snug and be sure to take the measurement to the fullest inch. Add 5 inches to that measurement to determine your bra size. If the total measurement is an odd number, round off to the next even number. If the total measurement is an even number, then that is your bra size.

The table below will give you a better picture of how to get your rib cage measurement.

The next step is to take your bust size measurement (A, B, C, D). Bust size is also known as cup size. Measure loosely around the back and around the fullest part of your bust. The difference between this measurement and the bra size you got from Step I will be your approximate cup size.
